Pickleball Canada Insurance

Hi PPC Members,

Having switched over to insurance coverage provided by Pickleball Canada Organization (PCO) the executive recently become aware of significant changes that affect coverage and some of the practices we have become accustomed to with the waivers everyone signs.

Coverage

The executive encourages all members to have a look at our current policy so you are aware of the coverage provided to members, clubs and the executive. This information can be found at this link: https://pickleballcanada.org/pickleball_canada_insurance_2020.php. Specifically, we urge everyone to familiarize yourself with the following contents of that website:

  • Insurance Program Overview 2020
  • Insurance Plan Summary 2020
  • Insurance FAQ

This link will also be added to the Penticton Pickleball Club website for convenient future reference.

Important to note is that members are only covered for insurance purposes if they are participating in a sanctioned event or a club event and are members of PCO playing in Canada. There is no coverage for non-PCO individuals who play as “guests” during club time.  (Additional important information provided below on “guests”.)

In view of the fact that we live in a very litigious society the PCO strongly suggests the signing of a waiver by club members as well as guests who participate in club events. The PCO has provided a liability waiver that was prepared by a law firm experienced in the field of sports law.

The Penticton Pickleball Club has been using a waiver that has been in existence for possibly as long as the club has existed. It, just as with any insurance related document, needs to be revisited and likely revised from time to time. Therefore, even though all members have already electronically signed that earlier version, members are also required to complete and sign the new version. A copy is attached to this email. Copies will also be made available at the courts. This new version will form part of the online registration for 2021 and subsequent years.

As of June 7, 2020, all members will be asked to have completed and returned this new liability waiver before participating in club events. Your cooperation in forwarding your completed waiver to the Penticton Pickleball Club as soon as possible is most appreciated. Please print the attached waiver, sign it and submit it to the court host the next time you are at the courts. A supply of waivers will also be on hand in the cabinet at the courts. Please ask the court host to provide one to you.

Guests

The PCO has provided a definition of “Guest” for insurance purposes:

“GUEST – A person that does not hold a valid PCO membership who is appropriately authorized by an Organization to participate in an Authorized Activity to a maximum of three (3) appearances.”

Being bound by this definition, our club is required to change the process for the recording of guests (as defined above) and identifying the PCO numbers of individuals who are not Penticton Pickleball Club members but are PCO members.

The Guest Liability Form has a section at the bottom where the dates they participate, and a PC0 number (if applicable), must be recorded by the court host/coordinator.  Instructions for hosts/coordinators will be provided at a later date.

The club executive appreciates everyone’s cooperation and patience during these trying times. Not only are we striving to overcome this COVID crisis, now new insurance requirements too! Please, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to direct them to the executive.

Thanks,

The PPC Executive
