Rating Committee Policy and Procedures

Penticton Pickleball players are either T, C, or S (tournament, club or self) rated. If you wish to play in programs for 4.0+ or above players, and don't have a tournament rating, then you may sign up to get a club rating (above). Until you are club rated, then you will be considered self rated. Players in programs 3.5 or below may self rate. For self-rating purposes the rating descriptions below serve as a guide.

These descriptions were derived from the rating descriptions used by the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) and the International Federation of Pickleball (IFP).

Rating

Player Level Descriptions/Characteristics

1.0

New and have only minimal knowledge of the game and the rules. Need to work most on developing their hand/eye coordination. Frequently miss the ball entirely, but can hit some of the slower balls with their forehand. They have a hard time playing games because they can't keep a rally going.

1.5

Keep some short rallies going with their forehand, but still fail to return easy balls frequently and occasionally miss the ball entirely. They have played a few games and know the basic rules of the game, including scoring.

2.0

Learning to judge where the ball is going, and can sustain a short rally with players of equal ability. They have obvious weaknesses in most of their strokes. Familiar with court positioning in doubles play.

3.0

Self Assessment Sheet for 3.0

Typical 3.0 level play. Need to make fewer unforced errors and start to use the drop shot to get to the net in order to move to the next level.

3.5

Self Assessment Sheet for 3.5

Average 3.5 level play. Still need to work on shot consistency and make fewer unforced errors to go to next level. 4.0 players play at a faster pace than this.

4.5 and 5.0

Levels 4.5 and 5.0 must be tournament rated.
